… when I was a child I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child, but when I became a man I put away childish things… I Corinthians 13:11

HERE I travel… on this road…though the journey has been difficult at times, I persevered. I am unapologetic for stepping outside the box and creating music inspired by my love of true soul and the greatness of R&B, flavored by both my passion and my pain…

HERE I rise…transcending the adversity that often blocked my path gave me courage. I have evolved, becoming stronger, wiser, and more focused. Through this experience, I learned that the markings of a true soldier are revealed in the chinks in his armor, and in his ability to unleash strength in times of weakness. As the man I have become, I knew it was time to step up and take control of my life. Even if I fall, I'll get back up! Who can judge a man? Only God…

HERE I reflect... looking inward. I believe I speak for most men when I say that in life, you're tempted to find ways to occupy the emptiness and loneliness you feel with temporary fixes. The more I tried to feed that void, the more I hungered. My search for oneness eluded me because the superficial shrouded me. Being truthful can be hard, but lying to oneself is harder. Sooner or later, you realize there's something missing in life. Something meaningful…something spiritual…

HERE I commit… unwavering, steadfast, pure-hearted, and wholly dedicated to love. United before God, we created a new life. Love is an action, and is unconditional. Love sees neither flaws nor shortcomings, and cares not about the time that separates us. Our hearts speak in sync and we breathe each other's souls...

HERE I embrace… with honor and pride, staring into the eyes of my son, the fifth generation to carry the name Usher Raymond. I marvel at my own image looking back at me. In this moment, I fully understand my purpose and my responsibility...

HERE I kneel...bowing my head in prayer. Remembering the times when I grew weary gives me humility. Knowing that change is never easy, I have confronted life's trials with passion, determination, and resilience. God's voice orders my steps. I am not perfect, but I am emboldened by His promise. As the head of my household , I provide for and protect my family. In this home, I find my peace, my solace. I pray for the strength to speak up for what I believe in, and most importantly, to stand up for what is right…

HERE I Stand…eternally grateful from the bottom of my heart, because it's been you, my fans, who have held me down through the storm…

Upon completion of this recording, I sat alone and listened to each song uninterrupted, reflecting once again on the progression and metamorphosis of this project. What makes me the most proud is that this album has given me the opportunity to let my fans know who I am now, a different me, a changing me, a growing me. HERE I STAND begins a new chapter in my life.

"No matter how far I go, and no matter how long it takes, no one or nothing can change, forever yours, Here I Stand..." lyrics taken from "Here I Stand."

Liner notes as told by Usher to New York Times Bestselling Author, Lyah Beth LeFlore

"HERE I STAND": "This record illuminates a period of enormous personal, spiritual and musical growth. Usher has lived a lifetime in just the last few years and has gone through the trials and tribulations that defined him as a person while mastering his artistry. With the world watching, he kept his grace. He's given birth not only to a child, but to this music, and to his manhood." -Benny Medina, Handprint Entertainment

"Observing Usher throughout this entire process, I admired his ability, his method, his passion, and his earnest pursuit to constantly evolve. It is this constant, that has shaped Usher into the quintessential entertainer. This album, "Here I Stand", is his honest recollection of the devastating moments, the enlightening experiences, and the transitions that have shaped his journey." -Christopher Hicks, Content Music Group

"The first title for the album I came up with for him was Measure Of A Man, based on the Sidney Poitier book of the same title. We ended up not going with that title, because another singer used it, but Usher came up with HERE I STAND. It was perfect because becoming a man is about going through pain, sorrow, and happiness. Usher's done that! From the love songs to the party joints, it's exactly the story he wanted to tell. He's letting all the fans know he's still that dude, and his swagger is doper than ever! As an artist, he's making more important records, and paying attention to what's going on, in the world!" -Mark Pitts, A&R

"When it comes to visually branding Usher, my goal is to help him raise the bar creatively and craft something unexpected. The look of the album is iconic-heroic, meets timelessness, meets real man. We took visual inspiration from the confidence and swagger of Muhammad Ali, the romance and style of Frank Sinatra and the sensual and vulnerable aura of his musical hero, Marvin Gaye. Finally, we tapped into iconic Hollywood leading men, giving him the understated, yet rebellious bravado and brooding emotion of Hollywood icons Steve McQueen and James Dean. I wish the whole album was one seamless song so that you could get the full, uncut experience of Usher The Man Redefined. The best way to describe this album is that it's a movie!" -DL Warfield, Goldfinger Creative

I love this album I played this album so much I need to buy another for both my car and home. Because I am such a fan my 5 year old son has become a fan. My son was diagnosed with Autism Feb. 2008, he's such a wonderful and beautiful child. He does have some language, but his gift is with music. I play or he hears Usher and he sing every song, if he's busy and hear his songs he stops and sings.

One Legend. One Legecy.

Usher. He has been a household name for YEARS. i have personally been a HUGE fan since day one. i have every album and song ever recorded. this is my review for the 2008-released album by usher called, "Here I Stand" forget the fact that he has an insane range vocally, forget his unforgettable swagger, look at the lyrics in the songs. they come from the heart. especially the actual song here i stand. heck, if this album wasn't as great as it is, usher would still make it through. i mean, almost 50,000,000 album sales ALONE, he could've pulled a crap album off at anytime. but that is the thing about usher. he never ceases to impress. he sets the standard for todays new talent. this album has incredible lyrics, INSANE vocals, amazing producing (he co. produced it himself!) and there wasn't a better album that year imho. Usher is a legend. No one in his time has done more impressively than the man himself. but even in interviews, when hey actually ask him, "What is there you have yet to achieve?" he remains humble and says that it is just the beginning. it really is. As if that isn't enough, he is a charitable, loving father, besides being one of the greatest artists of the last 20 years. he has been in the business for a whopping 17 years. the quality gets higher and higher every-time. people criticize him for adult themed songs. urm... HELLO? he is a 32 year old man! what do you want him to sing? disney trash? even in his first album from way back in '94, he talks about things beyond his age. because he can pull it off. it is usher. you don't question usher. that's probably where the whole "swagger" thing began. and who cares if it doesn't do as amazingly and confessions did in the charts? the true fans realize the difficulty, effort, and time put into every word usher sings. usher deserves every compliment or credit or award he has ever received. and many, many more. i praise him for the making of this album, raymond vs. raymond, and all previous recordings as-well. Usher. One Legend, One Legacy. By Dorsa, London, England.
